THE HANDMADE PROCESS
From Vision to Form
Every VèVè creation begins with an inspiration. It may come from a symbol, a memory, a Haitian landscape, an architectural detail, a traditional technique, or a moment within everyday life.
The idea is first translated through sketches, color studies, patterns, and material exploration. Proportions are refined, surfaces are considered, and the relationship between symbolism and function is carefully developed.
Once the design is ready, the work moves into the hands of the artisan. Materials are cut, shaped, stitched, assembled, carved, embellished, or woven depending on the character of the piece.
The process is unhurried. Each detail is reviewed as the creation develops, allowing the maker to respond to the material rather than force it into uniformity.
The result is an object that carries the original artistic intention while preserving the individuality of the handmade process.

The House of VèVè approaches material selection as part of the creative process.
Materials are chosen not only for their visual beauty, but also for their texture, strength, flexibility, cultural relevance, and ability to age with grace. Leather, textiles, beads, metalwork, embroidery, natural fibers, and decorative elements may be combined to create depth and contrast.
Color is equally important. Rich earth tones, luminous metallics, deep blacks, natural neutrals, and vibrant accents reflect the visual energy of Haiti while supporting the contemporary identity of the House.
We value materials that reveal the hand of the maker and develop character over time. Small variations in texture, tone, or finish are embraced as signs of authenticity rather than flaws.
